Detroit revisited: The steeped-in-legend Motor City and its technoid facets are the reference point for the 2011-founded Viennese electronic solo project Thunderdrone. Elementary dry beats, distinctive string sounds, and classic house samples: But Thunderdrone (whose musical socialisation happened somewhere totally different, namely in Slowcore/Metal/Doom) is not simply about recycling a retro vocabulary. Contrary to the brutal sound of the name, Thunderdrone is governed by a melancholic keynote that rediscovers the dance floor as a place of sensual meditation: dance for the advanced.
